The vault is open to the public, Monday thru Friday, 8:a.m. till 5:00 p.m. The vault has pertinent information that is an excellent source of evidence to utilize in establishing the right-of-way boundaries within the City of Dallas. Some of the information available dates back to the 1800's. Here are some examples of information that can be found in the vault:
The street, block and project folders are files that contain pertinent information, such as field sketches, bench loops, and some deeds that were utilized by City Survey forces in establishing various right-of-way boundaries. The hard copies and tracings are drawings made in conjunction with those surveys. The Dana sheets were drawn in the early 1900's, based on on the ground surveys, and are important in determining the right-of-ways in the Downtown area and some parts of old East Dallas. The "W" book is similar to the Dana sheets and cover parts of Oak Cliff. Copy fees currently are $0.25 for Xerox copies, and $3.00 for 24" by 36" copies.
