Summary of Storm Drainage Management Fee
The stormwater fee was implemented in 1991 to provide a dedicated funding source for costs associated with maintaining the drainage system and compliance with related state and federal regulations.   

The City of Dallas maintains city-wide permits with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for stormwater discharges.    The permit requires the City to implement a comprehensive program to identify and reduce stormwater pollution. 

Keeping neighborhoods and property safe from flood waters is a City priority.  The City also wants to make sure waterways are clean, healthy and accessible for the community to enjoy.  To achieve these goals, the Storm Drainage Management Fund is used to:

1. Operate and maintain the drainage system including
   • Trinity River levee system
   • storm drains, creeks, and natural channels
   • pump stations
2. Comply with state and federal requirements including
   • construction site and industrial facility inspections
   • water quality monitoring
   • illegal dumping

In order to address new maintenance standards adopted by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, enhancements to the levee maintenance program and additional expenses are required.

Non-Residential and Vacant
Monthly rate based on unit rate of $0.1589 per 100 square feet of impervious area. The maximum monthly rate for vacant (undeveloped) property is $57.10 for properties 5 acres and larger. The
minimum monthly rate for non-residential and vacant properties is $5.00 per month.
