The City of Dallas announces the results of the Dallas Floodway Project Periodic Inspection Report No. 9. Following the flooding that occurred during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) added a new rating system process for Periodic Inspections which are done every 5 years along with smaller, less detailed annual inspections.

The following documents provide additional information from the April 1, 2009 Council briefing. Also included is a Q&A that was put together to help answer questions that might arise from this rating received from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Dallas levee system. If you have further questions, please contact Mr. Frank Librio at (214) 670-3322.

Remarks by Councilmember David A. Neumann (Adobe PDF) (En español)

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and Brig. General Ken Cox from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers share preliminary results from Trinity River levee inspections conducted by the Corp of Engineers. The inspections are part of a 5-year nationwide study of levees initiated by the Corp following Hurricane Katrina. Despite the possibility of an unacceptable rating, Dallas officials are committed to moving the Trinity River Corridor Project forward and have already begun making some noted improvements. The Trinity River Corridor Project is the largest public works project in Dallas history and includes flood control, transportation, recreation, and economic development components.
