Department Mission

To develop partnerships and serve as a primary point of contact for the City to local, regional, state and federal levels of government and other independent agencies; to develop and manage the City's state and federal legislative agendas; to protect the interests of the City by coordinating with departments to develop appropriate responses to state and federal legislative matters; and to maximize opportunities for acquiring and leveraging outside resources.

Overview of Services

Intergovernmental Affairs\Legislative Initiatives

  • Serve as primary point of contact between the City and other governmental entities and agencies
  • Maintain communication network of policy makers and organizations to influence legislative initiatives
  • Provide research to Mayor\Council\City Manager's Office on legislative matters pertinent to the City
  • Coordinate with Austin and Washington lobbyists to initiate and monitor legislative projects and programs
  • Solicit and plan special events such as dignitary visits, conferences and press events

Fund Development

  • Serve as citywide resource for submitting grant applications, including technical grant writing expertise
  • Solicit funding for City programs and activities, public\private partnerships and non-profit agencies:
    • City programs include public safety, environmental quality and cultural\educational initiatives
    • Public\private partnerships funding used to leverage additional resources for construction-related activities and program implementation
    • Non-profit assistance helps to defray requests for funding normally directed at the City
