Phyllis Wheatley School

Built in 1922, specifically for African-American students, this school still serves as the center point of the surrounding neighborhood. Named for Phyllis Wheatley, an African-American 18th century poet who has the distinction of being America's second published female poet. This building exemplifies the Spanish eclectic style of architecture.
