Responsibilities:
- Assists with answering phones
- Opens and distributes mail, filing and typing
- Assists in preparing Proclamations and Special Recognitions
- Assists in drafting Welcome/Congratulatory/Support Letters
- Inputs & Monitors CRMS (service requests)
- Assists with all Constituent Correspondence
- Maintains Scrapbook
- Assists on Special Projects
- Interns also work on a rotation basis with the 6 members of the Mayor's staff.
Program Structure:
- Attends City Council Agenda meetings and briefings as needed
- Attends press conferences as needed
- Tours City Hall and learns organizational chart (Depts. & Directors)
- Researches a priority city project and provides feedback:
- Dallas Convention Center Hotel
- Public Safety
- Education
- During the summer months interns may be asked to work on the Mayor's Back to School Fair with the event organizer
- Interns will have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes to 1 hour of one-on-one time, as a group, with the Mayor during the internship to ask questions
- Assists with the preparation of speeches and remarks
- Accompanies the Mayor to events
Requirements for participating in the Mayor´s Internship are listed below:
- Students must attend a fully accredited University or College
- Internships are open to undergraduate (Juniors or Seniors) and graduate students
- It is preferred that students receive college credit for the internship
- Internships are non-paid positions
- Degree program/area of study: Political Science, Government, Public Administration, Journalism, Mass Communication or related field
- Interns must be able to work during business hours M-F (8:00am -12:30pm, 12:30pm – 5:15pm, or a full day: 8:00am – 5:00pm)
- Interns must provide their own transportation

- Applicants must first fill out the brief on-line application form below:
- Applicants must then send a resume and cover letter to the Chief of Staff
- Applicants must provide the name and contact information of the student's advisor, a letter of recommendation from the advisor and a list of 3 references
- Department Chair, College or University advisor may call Chief of Staff directly to recommend students for program
