The city secretary attends City Council meetings, documents City Council actions, certifies the authenticity of records, reviews City Council agenda items for completeness, prepares minutes, and maintains the City's legislative history.

ELECTIONS


The city secretary is the election official for the city and oversees the administration of city elections to ensure compliance with all city, state, and federal election laws and policies and to ensure that city elections are conducted in a fair and impartial manner.

BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

The City Secretary oversees the process of receiving nominations for all Boards and Commissions, conducting background checks, coordinating with other departments which work directly with each board, and documenting compliance with state law and City Code, such as financial disclosure and ethics rules. The Mayor and City Council are​ very interested in you serving as a member of a City of Dallas Board or Commission. As an interested citizen and community leader, you can provide invaluable service to the City of Dallas through your membership​​ and participation. Board and Commission members volunteer many hours annually sharing their time and expertise and enjoy learning more about the City through their membership. Boards and commissions members must meet the required qualifications.​

RECORDS MANAGEMENT

The city secretary chairs the city's records management policy committee and appoints the city's records management officer. The records management program provides for the identification, maintenance, retention, security, electronic storage, microfilming, disposition, and preservation of city records. The program is established by state law, city charter and city code. Learn more...
