Call 911 to report abuse.

About the Chair  |  Councilmember Delia Jasso  |  District 1

Councilmember JassoDelia D. Jasso, a lifelong resident dedicated to the challenge of improving the quality of life in her beloved Oak Cliff, was elected to the Dallas City Council in June 2009 to represent District 1. She was re-elected in May 2011 to continue representing
District 1.

Having served as a community and civic leader for more than 20 years, Delia came to her Council seat with a proven track record of success in serving the citizens of District 1, Oak Cliff and the City of Dallas. For seven years from 2002-2009, she served on the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Board. Delia was recognized for her leadership in 2005, when her colleagues supported her election to Vice President of the Board by the Dallas City Council.

While vigorously representing the interests of her own District, Delia shares her concern for the city as a whole by serving as a Councilmember on various City of Dallas committees, including the Arts, Culture and Libraries Committee as Vice-Chair; Ad Hoc Legislative Committee for Judicial Appointments as Co-Chair; the Public Safety Committee; Trinity River Corridor Project Committee; and the Transportation and Environment Committee.

In addition, she was appointed by the Mayor to serve on the Board of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau as Vice Chair, and the North Central Texas Council of Governments' Emergency Preparedness Planning Council.

In addition, Delia Jasso created and serves as the Chair for the Dallas Loves Animals Task Force and the GLBT Task Force.

She was named the 2010 Public Servant of the Year by the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce.

As the current Chairperson, Councilwoman Jasso states, "Domestic violence is around us every day. It is important for everyone to know that if you are a victim of domestic violence, or know of someone in an abusive situation, there are people who care and places that are available to you for help. Don't stay silent. Speak up. We will get you help, and help for anyone who's being abused. If we work together, we will win the war against domestic violence."
