This is done through establishing and monitoring Historic Districts and Conservation Districts. Historic Districts protect areas and buildings that are demonstrated to have historic significance based on guidelines established by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. Conservation Districts are established in response to neighborhood interest to maintain the scale and character of an area through special regulations.
