Dallas offers free pet services to low-income residents
Dallas has become the first city in Texas to offer free spay and neuter services for pets owned by qualified, low-income Dallas residents.
Most applicants will be approved for the program if they already receive some type of public assistance, such as food stamps or Medicaid. Low-income pet owners not receiving public assistance may still qualify for the program and are encouraged to apply.
To participate in the program, pet owners can obtain an application by downloading it here or by calling Animal Services. Approved applicants are notified by City staff and provided a list of 10 participating animal hospitals. When the spay-neuter surgery is performed, basic immunizations needed at that time are also provided free of charge. The City will reimburse participating veterinarians for their services.
