Dallas - Mosquitoes collected on June 30, 2005, have tested positive for West Nile Virus. The Texas Department of State Health Services notified the City of Dallas Environmental and Health Services Department late on July 11, 2005, that mosquitoes collected in Zip Code 75215 were positive for West Nile Virus.

Weather conditions permitting, staff from the City of Dallas Environmental and Health Services Department will spray an area southwest of Fair Park. Wind speeds below 10 miles per hour and temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees are required for spraying to be effective.

Spray treatments are scheduled to begin Monday night, July 18 and end Tuesday morning, July 19, 2005. The area is bounded on the northeast by the proposed DART Rail Line, on the northwest by Grand Avenue, on the southwest by Julius Schepps Freeway (I-45), and on the southeast by Metropolitan Avenue, S.M. Wright Freeway, Pine Street, Malcolm X Boulevard, McDermott Avenue and Tuskegee Street.

Residents in treatment areas are advised to remain indoors, keep pets inside and avoid contact with the spray. For additional information about Mosquito Control visit the City’s website.
