City of Dallas Accepting Citizen nominations for South Dallas Walk of Fame; NOMINATIONS DEADLINE IS August 19

The City of Dallas is accepting nominations for the South Dallas Walk of Fame at Opportunity Park, a recognition program that will honor more than 30 individuals for their significant contributions to the South Dallas community.

Nomination forms are available at City of Dallas libraries and recreation centers. To locate a city library, call (214) 670-1400. Call the Dallas Park and Recreation Department at (214) 670-4100 for recreation center locations. 

The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, August 19, 2005. Nominations can be mailed to Michael King, South Dallas Walk of Fame Committee, 1500 Marilla St. 6FN, Dallas, Texas 75201 or faxed to South Dallas Walk of Fame Committee at (214) 670-1819.

The South Dallas Walk of Fame at Opportunity Park will be a permanent recognition honoring individuals in five categories.  

Honorees will be selected for their civic leadership, community accomplishments and work experience in such areas as education, community development, politics, religion, business, medicine, science, national affairs, entertainment, humanities, arts, engineering, entrepreneurship and more.

Citizen nominations are being accepted for four of the recognition types. The recognition types will honor  1) Two individuals who have made continued professional and civic contributions in their specific area of interest and profession to the South Dallas community AND whose contributions are noteworthy and recognized at the state and national levels;  2) Six individuals who make continued professional and civic contributions in their specific area of interest to the South Dallas community AND whose contributions are noteworthy and recognized in Dallas and throughout the South Dallas community will be recognized;  3) Thirty individuals who make continued professional and civic contributions in their specific area of interest to the South Dallas community AND whose contributions are noteworthy and recognized in Dallas and throughout the South Dallas community; and 4) Twenty-five deceased individuals.
