Old Tennis Shoes Have a Foot in
the City’s Recycling Effort As part of the City of Dallas' effort to educate the public about the importance of recycling and other city services, a tennis shoe drive will be held at the Dallas City Hall Plaza (1500 Marilla) from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on National Youth Service Day, Saturday, April 23. The goal for the one-day event is to collect over 500 tennis shoes and recycle them through the NIKE Corporation. National Youth Service Day is a day of public awareness and education to highlight the contributions of young people to their communities throughout the year. Youth design and lead service learning projects in areas ranging from literacy and the environment, to healthcare, hunger and elderly assistance. This year’s theme is recycling, “For What It’s Worth, It Saves The Earth.” National Youth Service Day attendees will learn more about recycling, and will be able to vote for the high school with the best band. The Battle of the Bands features bands from Lincoln High School, D.W. Carter High School, Lancaster High School, Bishop Lynch High School and Townview High School. National Youth Service Day partners include: City
of Dallas Department of Sanitation Services; Environmental and Health
Services Department - Youth Services Office; City of Dallas Youth
Commission; Community Waste Disposal, Inc. (CWD); and Action Jackson,
