City of Dallas to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s
Birthday January 13-14

What: 25th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday activities
“Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off!”

City of Dallas activities celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14, 2006; all activities are free, except for the awards banquet.
When/ 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2006
Where: Candle-lighting ceremony and wreath laying at the statue area
Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2901 Pennsylvania Avenue
Keynote speaker: Pastor Bryan Carter, Concord Baptist Church
When/ 10 a.m., Saturday, January 14
Where: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade
The parade assembly begins at Dallas city hall plaza, located at 1500 Marilla, and marches past the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and ends at Fair Park. Participants include bands, floats, community/civic groups, churches and live broadcast featuring Radio One 97.9/94.5 personalities.
Grand Marshals:
Constable Derick Evans, community volunteer award winner; Kathy Nealy & Associates, business award winner and State Farm, corporate award winner

6:30 p.m. – VIP reception and auction
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Banquet

Master of Ceremony: Radio personality Willis Johnson from
KKDA 730 AM
7:30 p.m. – Dinner

Keynote speaker, Kweisi Mfume- political and business leader
Entertainment: Disco Don’s Music Enterprizes, tickets: $60 each
