City Councilman Ed Oakley and Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Elba Garcia team up for ‘District Discussion’ Council members, top City staff to present neighborhood update at combined meeting
January 6, 2006 (DALLAS) An update on Dallas’ activities, events and future plans, with special emphasis on those occurring in City Council Districts 1 and 3, is set for Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hitt Auditorium of Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Called, “District Discussion,” the meeting will be co-hosted by Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Elba Garcia and City Councilman Ed Oakley, representing those respective districts. The District Discussion, similar in nature to a town hall meeting, will feature presentations by City Manager Mary K. Suhm and the five Assistant City Managers, who will tailor their presentations along the five Council Key Focus Areas or priorities, set in 2004. Ms. Suhm will set the tone for the discussion with an opening statement. She will be followed by Assistant City Manager Charles Daniels, who will speak on Public Safety; Assistant City Manager Ryan Evans, covering Economic Development; Assistant City Manager Ramon Miguez, set to speak on Neighborhood Quality of Life; Assistant City Manager Tomas Gonzalez, slated to speak on Staff Accountability; and Assistant City Manager Jill Jordan who will touch on the Trinity River Corridor. Ms. Jordan will also cover an additional priority -- Customer Service. “We want the residents of our areas to see the good that’s coming out of City Hall,” said Mr. Oakley. “Having District Discussions allows regular people to see and hear about Dallas and our specific districts directly from the people who are leading the effort,” he added. Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Garcia sees significant value in the District Discussions, “Residents can ask questions directly of the people who are in charge of our district’s programs and activities. It’s a win-win for everyone.” The auditorium is located at 1441 N. Beckley Ave. and the parking entrance is at the corner of Bishop St. and Colorado Ave. Seating is on a first come-first served basis.
