2006 Dallas Summer Musicals wow with old favorites and new crowd-pleasers.
Broadway sell-outs, swan songs, energetic upstarts, and very dirty deeds. The 66th season of the Dallas Summer Musicals will ignite the Music Hall at Fair Park with deep passion, spirited hilarity and pure joy. This year, ticket sales are especially brisk for several riveting reasons, according to Michael Jenkins, President and Managing Director of the Dallas Summer Musicals.
“This is the final chance to see several shows that are touring for the last time in their full magnitude: The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Phantom, which already played March 22-April 16, dazzled with some of the most lavish sets, costumes and special effects ever created for the stage. The tragic love story of a singer and composer at the Paris Opera House has always been unforgettable.” Les Miz, running June 21-July 2, has continued to mesmerize with its timeless tale of the fall and rise of Jean Valjean. Seen by over 53 million people in 38 countries, the 20-year-old musical masterpiece is still playing on Broadway.
“By request of many ABBA fans, we’re bringing back an encore run of Mama Mia! from July 4-16,” states Mr. Jenkins. “It’s effervescent, high-energy and continues to sell out on Broadway and across the world.” ABBA’s 70’s mega-hits set the backdrop for the funny, happy wedding story that is called the ‘ultimate feel-good show.’
See legends in the making.
Bklyn (Brooklyn), May 9-21; Little Women-The Broadway Musical, May 23-June 4; and Bombay Dreams, June 6-18, are three exhilarating new musicals that are captivating audiences on Broadway and beyond. Each has its own rich flavor: from urban funk/gospel, to Civil War-era heartfelt songs led by star Maureen McGovern, to the exotic rhythms of India.
Last but not least, says Mr. Jenkins, is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the State Fair Musical from September 26-October 15. “This is such an uproarious, hugely successful ‘showbiz comedy’ and Tony Award winner…and it’s still playing on Broadway.” Dallas audiences will be among the first to see the national touring production that centers around two con men living on the French Riviera.
Michael Jenkins adds a tempting P.S.: “Wicked is returning in Spring, 2007!”
