Texas Discovery Gardens (Horticulture Museum), 1936 Arthur E. Thomas; M.C. Kleuser Of all the museum facilities in the original cultural district, this building bears the least resemblance to its original appearance. The most notable feature is an extraordinary minimalist glass Blachly Conservatory, added in 1971. In the gardens behind the main building can be found the Dallas Horticulture Education Building, designed by Bubi Jessen of Austin as the Portland Cement Model Home for the Centennial, and restored by Dallas AIA in 1984. Three other nearby model homes were moved off-site after the close of the fair. The editor of this book was Larry Paul Fuller. The Fair Park Introduction and entries were written by Willis Winters, AIA. Permission to publish these excerpts was granted by The American Institute of Architects, Dallas Chapter, in October 2002. |
